So I was hoping to get some good recipes for muskies and the name of good taxidermist.  Anyone?

This is likely heresy but I have five Lew's Speed Spools and four of them range from 35-40 years old and have TENS OF THOUSANDS of hours on them and I've never even oiled them and zero problems.  Hope that lends some perspective to the discussion.  Carry on.

Just found the forum.  I fish Piedmont flows in NC mostly for bass, but grew up in VA fishing all the rivers for smallies and have only seen one musky in my life when I was a kid ca. 1972 at Burke Lake. Couldn't get it to hit LOL  Anyway, I'm a skilled river basser and want to start expanding my range and challenge level so I'm going to start trying to get my feet wet on JR muskies this year.  I fish out of a solo or two man canoe and may be looking at a modest jet boat this year if economic conditions allow.  When I cross the state line, I fish flows out of Danville and Altavista and figure another hour or so north to hit the Big River would be well worth the time.  I tend to fish a lot of Fridays so if anyone needs a net man let me know.  I don't keep fish and I keep spots off the internet.

My buddy and I booked a two day muskie trip with Southern Muskies for Sat-Sunday February 15-16th.  Coming down from northern VA and am sure the guys at Southern Muskies will let us know ahead of time what the deal is.  Just curious...anyone know if the New @ Pembroke is fishable or iced over?  Thanks!

I haven't really gone at all this year. Going down to Claytor this month. Has anyone ever caught a Muskie from this lake? I'll probably be doing some shore fishing on the New around Radford.

I'm still here!  I check in periodically to see if anyone has posted.

Over the last two years I've fished my little stretch of the Shenandoah south of Elkton pretty heavily and had one encounter that I believe to be a musky.  It was nearly dark, and I was fishing behind a tree that came down in the derecho.  Using a jitterbug, I hooked a little smallmouth, probably 8" or so.  About 3 seconds after I hooked it something BIG grabbed the smallmouth and took off, breaking my line.  I figure it had to be a musky!  Unfortunately it was too dark to see it.

Admittedly though I haven't done a ton of fishing in the prime months for musky.

I have not had a lot of luck this season with the smallmouths due to time constraints and poor fishing conditions with all the rain we've received.  If I do find a musky though I'll be sure to report it!

I did well in the Winter and early Spring.  It's been slow since.  I'm getting out on Friday.
